How do you take your bread? Maybe you’re partial to a French baguette with lashings of strawberry jam. Or perhaps you’re a fan of toasted ciabatta beneath a bed of scrambled eggs. Or if you’re extra fancy you might opt for a slice of focaccia oozing with balsamic, onion, tomato, basil and cheese.

However, one feminist blogger likes sourdough but not just any sourdough, oh no, far from it! She came up with an inventive and – ahem – pretty unconventional way of making food out of her own bodily secretions – using her own vaginal yeast.

So let’s talk yeast. It’s alive! It’s not required for all types of bread but is a crowd favourite amongst many bakers. To make a sourdough “starter” you need to use a dough in which the yeast is constantly reproducing, as a regular dose of flour is added. Many people will use store-bought yeast, although I’d probably just use store bought-bread. Zoe Stravi on the other hand, who tweets under the handle “Another angry woman”, uses her own yeast. Literally.

Starvi decided to live-tweet the experience. She was backed by the support of a handful of people who appeared to enjoy the photographic evidence she was providing:
