How do you take your bread? Maybe you’re partial to a French baguette with lashings of strawberry jam. Or perhaps you’re a fan of toasted ciabatta beneath a bed of scrambled eggs. Or if you’re extra fancy you might opt for a slice of focaccia oozing with balsamic, onion, tomato, basil and cheese. -

However, one feminist blogger likes sourdough but not just any sourdough, oh no, far from it! She came up with an inventive and – ahem – pretty unconventional way of making food out of her own bodily secretions – using her own vaginal yeast. -

So let’s talk yeast. It’s alive! It’s not required for all types of bread but is a crowd favourite amongst many bakers. To make a sourdough “starter” you need to use a dough in which the yeast is constantly reproducing, as a regular dose of flour is added. Many people will use store-bought yeast, although I’d probably just use store bought-bread. Zoe Stravi on the other hand, who tweets under the handle “Another angry woman”, uses her own yeast. Literally. -
